Physicist Stephen Hawking moved to heart hospital
World-renowned British physicist Stephen Hawking, author of science best-seller A Brief History of Time, has been transferred to a specialist heart and lung hospital due to the effects of pneumonia(肺炎), the hospital said on Tuesday. Mr Hawking, 62, who is wheelchair-bound due to the motor neurone(运动神经元病)disease he has suffered for more than 40 years, was moved to Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, eastern England, from a general hospital also in his home. \"He's stable and was brought in yesterday [Monday] morning,\" said a spokeswoman for Papworth, a centre of excellence in cardiac treatment. Cambridge University, where Mr Hawking is a mathematics professor, was unable to say why he had been moved but said he had initially(最初)gone to hospital \"in relation to the pneumonia he was being treated for in December and January\".
British police are currently investigating claims made by nurses looking after Mr. Hawking who say that he had been physically abused(虐待)by his wife, Elaine. Last month the physicist issued a statement saying he \"firmly and whole-heartedly\" rejected the rumors, describing media reports of supposed assaults(攻击)by his wife as \"completely false\". Brief History, which sold more than 10 million copies, made Mr Hawking a millionaire and one of the most famous scientists on the planet. When Mr. Hawking was diagnosed with motor neurone disease while still a university undergraduate, his life expectancy was put at around two years, and he is one of the longest-surviving sufferers of the condition. Despite his illness and his need to speak through an electronic voice box, Mr. Hawking has continued to tour the world, giving science lectures.

A couple of months ago I got an email from the JC Penney department store in the US trying to persuade people to buy the chain's new super shirt--a men's dress shirt made of \"functional(功能的)material\" that didn't simply prevent wrinkles(皱), it also helped get rid of sweat and controlled smell.
The writer of the message declared that the big trend(趋势)in men's wear today was \"performance\". Really? Men surely think about performance in all kinds of ways, but do they really connect it with their clothing?
So I was already wondering about materials when I got a shirt years ago that was said to have similar functions. I must say, I had a lot of fun pouring all kinds of things on this shirt to mess it up, but without success.
I have since found out that even wilder, more wonderful functions are on the edge of showing up, shoes with silver molecules to get rid of bad smell, clothing and curtains with a pleasant smell that can last years.
At JC Penney, the company's newly-developed trousers with special functions cost more than its regular ones but became the top-selling trousers as soon as they were introduced 18 months ago, said Tami Wolfe, director of product development of JC Penney.
\"We're going to see this all over the place not only in materials, but also in car applications (应用), carpet applications.\" said Ingrid Johnson, a professor of textile (纺织)development and marketing for the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She foresees widespread consumer acceptance and demand.
\"Somebody throws a glass of wine on you and it just rolls off--that's very, very easy to see and to understand,'\" she said.
Already, she said, the costs of using such technology are coming down because
its application is growing. Right now much of the performance clothing is aimed at men's dress shirts, suits and underwear. And there's a reason: Men not only want something that looks all right, they are drawn to clothes that are easy to care for. 70. After reading the text, we can know that JC Penney is ______.

B. Men's wear will become more colorful with more pleasant smell. C. Men's wear will suit those who care more about their appearances. D. Men‟s wear will have more functions and will be easier to care for. 73. According to the passage, performance clothing ______.
A. takes in any liquid easily B. is very popular all over the world C. will probably become less expensive D. can keep you from giving out sweat

So far as I know, Miss Hannah was the first person to give the basic difference between work and labor. To be happy, a man must feel, firstly, free and, secondly, important. He can not be really happy if he is forced by society to do what he does not enjoy doing, or if what he enjoys doing is lowly thought of by society as valueless or unimportant. In a society where slavery in the strict sense has been got rid of, the sign that what a man does is of social value is that he is paid money to do it, but a laborer today can rightly be called a wage slave. A man is a laborer if the job that society offers him is not interesting to himself but he has to take it just owing to the necessity of earning a living and supporting his family.
The opposite side to labor is play. When we play a game, we enjoy what we are doing, otherwise we should not play it. It is a purely private activity, and society could not care whether we play it or not.
Between labor and play stands work. A man is a worker if he is personally interested in the job which society pays him to do; what from the point view of society is necessary labor is from his own point of view willing play. Whether a job is to be classified as labor or work depends, not on the job itself, but on the tastes of the individual who does it. The difference does not, for example, agree with the difference between a physical and a mental job; a gardener or a cobber may be a worker, a bank clerk a labor.
Which a man is can be seen from his attitude toward leisure. To a worker, leisure means simply the hours he needs to relax and rest in order to work efficiently. He is therefore more likely to take too little leisure than too much. To the laborer, on the other hand, leisure means freedom from compulsion(强迫),so that it is natural for him to imagine that the fewer hours he has to spend laboring, and the more hours he is free to play, the better.
74. A man feels happy when .
A. he is supposed to what is important in his opinion. B. he has to take a job to earn a living and support his family C. he is doing something personally interesting and socially valuable. D. what he enjoys doing is what he thinks highly of
75 .The reason why a laborer can be called a wage slave is that . A. he has a family to support
B. his wages are as low as what a salve used to make C. society doesn‟t care whether he plays or not D. he is doing the job only for money, not for interest
76 .Whether a job can be classified as labor or work depends on . A. whether it is physical or mental B. the tastes of the person who does it C. the attitude of the society toward it
D. the necessity of the job to the society and individual 77 .Which of the following can be the best title of the text? A. Whether to Work or to Play B. Work, Labor, and Play
C. Differences between Labor and Play D. Leisure, Key to Work, Labor and Play

People are making more and more demands on the world‟s natural resources. If babies born in 1991 live for eighty years, the human population of the world may be anything from twice to three times the present total by 2070. In other words, they will have to share what is left of the earth‟s resources with 15 billion other people. But hopefully there will be an important decrease in the growth of population. What if this does not happen? The answer is that by the time before the babies born in 1991 reach the age of 40 they could be sharing resources with as many as 10 billion other people. Limiting the pollution of water and the atmosphere, controlling the output of the chemicals that may be causing the global warming and climate change, and eating less meat may go some to help, but can anyone seriously imagine that these are going to solve the problems of the “baby class” of 1991?
There is no getting away from the fact that people are responsible (对……负责)for the present state of the world, and only people can solve the problems. The decisions have to be taken by people as members of national and local governments; as leaders and decision-makers in industry; as scientists and technologists; as professional engineers and designers; as religious (宗教的)leaders and individual citizens.
