的The researchers measured the brain activity of 18 adults who were asked to look at an image (图像)on a screen for a certain length of time. They were then asked to guess how long they'd been looking at the image. They tended to (倾向于)guess incorrectly when they were asked to stare at the image for very long or very short periods of time.
After looking at their brain activity, the researchers found neurons that send messages in response to certain amounts of time. When they receive repetitive stimulation (重复的刺激)(such as staring at a screen), these neurons little by little get \"tired\" and don't work properly. It doesn't matter whether this amount of time is long or short, as long as the stimulation is repetitive. However, other neurons still work normally, causing an imbalance in the way that we experience time.
When you stand in line or do some other repetitive tasks, such as math homework, your time-sensitive neurons get tired, which may lead you to feel like time is going slowly. But when you're doing something more fast-paced, such as playing soccer, you feel like time is going faster.
Either way, when it comes to your experience of time, think about whether your brain has made a mistake.
Common Illusion (错觉)of time:
Time seems to go at different speeds in different 81 . For example, a term may already have come to an 82 before we realize it.
The phenomenon (现象):Students who had looked for a very long or very short period of time could probably 84 to tell how long they had been that we experience time. The cause of the illusion: Illusion is a 85 of an imbalance in one's brain. Neurons that are sensitive to time get tired and work improperly when 86 repetitive stimulation, while other neurons still work normally. This 87 an imbalance in the way More 88 : You may be led to feel like time passes by more slowly when doing math homework, but you experience the effect (效应)when you play soccer. Conclusion: Don't always put your 90 in your brain when your guess the length of time. B)根据短文内容及首字母提示,填写所缺单词,并将答案填写在答题卡标号为96-105的相应位置。 People often say that the world is getting smaller. By this, they mean that trade and communication c 91 different countries and make them more and more familiar (熟悉)with one another. There seems to be a lot of truth to this. After all, you can buy African food in India, or watch a French movie in China. However, not all cultures s 92 the same values and beliefs about what is normal or socially acceptable. So it is natural and c 93 for people to experience culture shock (冲击)when moving to a new country or experiencing a new culture or surroundings.
Recently, the Daily Mail reported on some culture shocks from around the world. A Chinese student, Liu Chenghao, was impressed by \"American Smile” shortly after he was sent to attend a c 94 in Boston, US. His American classmates often smile using their teeth at total strangers, which makes them seem so f 95 to people around them. At first, these wide smiles made Liu feel strange. He f 96 got used to it as he thought that it might be because Americans show their warmth and happiness in this way.
Most often, however, it is some habits that are different between cultures. The Daily Mail article m 97 the shock of an Indian man, Kaushal Barot. When visiting a Western country, he noticed people talking with friends in a r 98 for hours. Kaushal was surprised because in India, it is a place only for having meals.
The cultural differences people notice can seem good, bad, or simply just strange. But rather than something to be afraid of, these differences should be a 99 and even welcomed. Indeed, if the whole world were like one big country, it would be a much more boring place. So lefs be p 100 of our own culture, and at the same time, open to the cultures of others. Do you agree with me? 八、书面表达(满分15分)

Pablo Picasso (毕加索)
Profession: painter Lived: 1881-1973 Birthplace: Malaga, SpainFamous works: The Weeping Woman, Girl before a Mirror, Guernica
Spanish painter Pablo Picasso was a leader of Western art in the 20th century. This year marks the 140th anniversary (周年2己念)of his birth. Picasso created more than 20,000 paintings, sculptures (雕塑)and other pieces of art in his lifetime.
He made a lot of art, so there are a lot of different periods in Picasso's painting career. Christie's auction (才白卖)house lists eight periods.
As his style changed over time, it became more minimalist (极简风格).A common joke is that Picasso forgot how to paint. After all, he was once trained at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona.
Now he is best known for leading an artistic movement known as \"Cubism (立体主义)It used geometric (几 彳可的)shapes to create humans and animals. Picasso tried to show people or things from different angles (角度),all in the same picture. For example, a person's left eye may be shown from straight ahead while his right eye and nose are shown from the side. The result is strange and beautiful, frightening and funny.
Picasso often said that he admired (崇拜)art and drawings made by children. \"When I was their age I could draw like Raphael, but it took me a lifetime to learn to draw like them (children),” he said.
Maybe that's why Picasso is still popular. We look at his work and think, \"Maybe I could do that!”What might we see in a cubist painting?

My favorite Chinese book is To Live, a masterpiece(杰作)by Chinese writer Yu Hua. The first time I read this book, I was in high school一a public school in Beijing. My Chinese teacher said that we would learn a lot about China by reading it. I was very curious about the title of the novel and didn't quite understand what it meant.
Soon I found out that To Live describes the life of an old Chinese peasant (农民),Xu Fugui. The story starts with the narrator (叙述者)traveling through the countryside to collect folk

songs and local legends. He hears an old peasant's life story. That story includes many of the significant (重大 的)events in China's recent history, such as the land reform (改革)in the 1950s and the great changes in the 1960s and 1970s.
I was able to learn what Chinese society was like before the founding (建立)of the People's Republic of China, in 1949. It took me on a journey, as if I was the main character traveling through time, seeing all these milestone
(里程碑)events. It was very interesting to see the contrast (对比)between Fugui's status (身份)before 1949, as the spoiled son of a wealthy landlord, and the peasant he becomes after 1949.1 felt sad for Fugui, as over the course of the story he loses his friends, family and loved ones. He has to face all these things by himself. I think that fate (命 运)played a cruel trick on him. I find Chinese or Eastern literature to be very different from Western literature. The way of thinking is just completely different. Western authors often take a lot of time to describe characters9 feelings. Plots in Eastern novels, however, often feature characters working as a team. However, my curiosity about these differences resulted in a strong passion (热'i青)toward Chinese literature and culture. 55. What made t6me,, curious when \"I” first heard of the book?
A. Its cover.B. Its character.C. Its titleWhich best describes Xu Fugui when the narrator first D. Its story hears of his story?
A. A folk singer.B. A landlordC. A spoiled man. 56. What do T” think of Eastern novels?
A. The characters can often be described in a team. B. Eastern novels are can be easy to understand. C. They are similar to western novels in many ways. D. They have a lot of space to improve.
57. The underlined word “cruel” in Paragraph 4 probably means .
A. causing painB. creating calmness
C. mixing sadness and happinessD. adding excitementThe reading above can be a. A. book coverB. book reviewC. book interviewD. book advice非选择题(共60分)
