高中英语 Foreign Food专题教学设计

Teaching Plan-Foreign Food

Aims:

1. From independent research/discussion, students can get to know more about many types of foreign food, from their origin, look to taste.

2. After the class, students will have a better understanding of ‘food talks’, especially describing food with others, which will be beneficial in real situations like restaurants/supermarkets, or exchanging info with foreign friends.

3. In the process of team work (tasting game/describing a Chinese dish), with a combination of individual presentation and group discussion, students are able to develop a sense of responsibility while experiencing the happiness of ‘working together’.

Background: Intro to Foreign Food 101

Teacher: Alice, a cooking teacher from OCT cooking school

Fiona Zhang(Student): Cooking Assistant, she will be in charge of the game session

6 groups of Students: people who are interested in foreign food.

Step 1 Assigning Tasks & Group Discussion (Before Class)

Teacher (T) assigns task during weekend. After discussion, each group needs to decide what food they want to bring. Then all members will try to describe it both in Chinese and English during the weekend.

Step 2 Revision of Words and Expressions

Students (S) are given a handout before class, listing the commonly-used words and expression about food descriptions, as well as some simple descriptions of the food prepared for the tasting game. S will go through the handout with T according to the sequence of cognition (name-origin-look-smell-taste-after taste-like it or not).

Step 3 Tasting Game

Each group will send 2 contestant on stage at a time (they can take the handout with them). One will go behind a board and taste some foreign food, he/she can only communicate with his/her partner by describing the food in English. Once the partner get 3 right, the game’s over (they will be timed by Fiona). The group that uses least time wins.

Step 4 Introducing Chinese Food (10 most popular Chinese Food)

Step 5 Homework

Write a short description (150 words) of your favourite Chinese food (which is

not introduced in Step 4), so it will get a higher popularity among your foreign friends.
