―Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world onfire.‖ So said St Catherine of Siena whose festival day it is today.Marriage is intended to be a way in which man and woman helpeach other to become what God meant each one to be, their deepest and truest selves.

Many are full of fear for the future of the prospects of our world but the message of thecelebrations in this country and far beyond its shores is the right one – this is a joyful day! It isgood that people in every continent are able to share in these celebrations because this is, as everywedding day should be, a day of hope.

In a sense every wedding is a royal wedding with the bride and the groom as king and queenof creation, making a new life together so that life can flow through them into the future.

William and Catherine, you have chosen to be married in the sight of a generous God who soloved the world that he gave himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ.

Wilt thou love him, comforthim, honour and keep him, in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all other, keep thee only untohim, so long as ye both shall live?

The Archbishop: Who giveth this woman to be married to this man?

The Archbishop receives Catherine from her father's hand. Taking Catherine's right hand, PrinceWilliam says after the Archbishop:

I, William Arthur Philip Louis, take thee, Catherine Elizabeth to my wedded wife, to have and to holdfrom this day forward, for better, for worse: for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; to loveand to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy law; and thereto I give thee my troth.

Catherine, taking Prince William by his right hand, says after the Archbishop:

The Archbishop blesses the ring: Bless, O Lord, this ring, and grant that he who gives it and shewho shall wear it may remain faithful to each other, and abide in thy peace and favour, and livetogether in love until their lives' end. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prince William takes the ring and places it upon the fourth finger of Catherine's left hand. PrinceWilliam says after the Archbishop: With this ring I thee wed; with my body I thee honour; and allmy worldly goods with thee I share: in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the HolyGhost. Amen.

The congregation remains standing as the couple kneels. The Archbishop says: Let us pray. OEternal God, Creator and Preserver of all mankind, giver of all spiritual grace, the author ofeverlasting life: send thy blessing upon these thy servants, this man and this woman, whom webless in thy name; that, living faithfully together, they may surely perform and keep the vow andcovenant betwixt them made, whereof this ring given and received is a token and pledge; andmay ever remain in perfect love and peace together, and live according to thy laws; through JesusChrist our Lord. Amen.

The Archbishop joins their right hands together and says: Those whom God hath joined togetherlet no man put asunder.

The Archbishop addresses the congregation: Forasmuch as William and Catherine have consentedtogether in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this company, andthereto have given and pledged their troth either to other, and have declared the same by givingand receiving of a ring, and by joining of hands; I pronounce that they be man and wife together,in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Amen.
