DAY ONE
Hip-hop tells history
In July, the popular musical (音乐剧) Hamilton came out on Disney Plus. The musical has been popular for some time. This was the first time that people could watch it online (线上).
The musical tells a story about US history with hip-hop (嘻哈) songs, fun dances and colorful clothes. Its writer is Lin-Manuel Miranda. He not only plays Alexander Hamilton in the play, but is also the play’s main composer (作曲人).
People of color often have few chances to appear in musicals. But Miranda wanted to do something different. He spent six years writing Hamilton and played the main role himself.

Learning how to roast

West Lake Longjing tea is one of the 10 most famous kinds of Chinese tea. People like to call it the “gentleman” of teas. It is famous for its beautiful green color (色绿), pleasant smell (香郁), sweet taste (味甘) and neat shape (形美).
There is a special way to keep these qualities (品质): roasting (炒) tea leaves by hand. Roasters roast the tea leaves at temperatures as high as 260 C, so they must be careful with their hands.
This traditional (传统的) way of roasting tea started during the Ming and Qing dynasties (朝代). It became an important part of Chinese tea culture. In 2008, this way of roasting Longjing tea was added to China’s national intangible cultural heritage list (国家非物质文化遗产名录).

DAY THREE
What time do you like to take your showers?
Since I came to China, I have found one interesting difference between China and the US – the times at which we take our showers (淋浴).
11
Chinese people often take a shower at the end of the day. After a long day of school or work, it’s nice to wash yourself and feel clean before going to bed.
But in the US, we often shower in the morning. An early shower wakes up your body and mind. After that, you feel refreshed (清爽的) and ready for work or school. I prefer to do it the way people in China do and take showers later in the day. It helps me relax and gives me some time to think to myself about how my day went. It’s a pleasant (愉悦的) way to end the day.

Living on the moon
If you could build a house on the moon, what would it look like?
11
Two Danish designers (设计师) made a special house. They call and become smaller. When it is unfolded (展开), it becomes 5.6 times bigger. This makes it easier to take the house to the moon. Designers Sebastian Aristotelis and Karl-Johan Sorenson got the idea from origami (折纸艺术), a kind of Japanese art. Later this year, they will test Lunark in northern Greenland (格陵兰岛北部) for three months. Northern Greenland is one of the most moon-like places on Earth. It is windy and as cold as -30 C. The designers will be cut off (切断与……的联系) from
the rest of the world. It will be almost like living on the moon. If it works, people might use it on the real moon in the future. 1. What makes the house so special? A. It is a Japanese house. B. It can be folded. C. It can move around. D. It is warm.
2. Who did the designers make the house for? A. For poor people on the street.

DAY SIX

任务型阅读:比萨斜塔
Look at the picture! Nothing is wrong with your eyes. There is something wrong with the tower. It’s the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It is in Pisa, a city in Italy.
In 1173, people in Pisa began to build the tower. They wanted it to be round and tall, taller than any tower in Italy. In 1178, when the tower was just three stories (层) tall, it began to lean. There was a war in Pisa at the time. So construction (建造) on the tower stopped for years. After about 200 years, in 1370, the construction was finished. The tower has eight stories. It is 55.86 meters tall.
But why does it lean? There are different opinions about this. Some people have pointed out that while the tower is very tall and heavy, the ground (地面) is made of soft sand and clay (粘土). The tower leans because it is sinking (下沉) into the soft ground. The tower is famous not only because of what it looks like, but also because of a famous experiment (实验). The great scientist Galileo did this experiment around 1590. He dropped (抛下) two iron balls from the top of the tower – one weighing 8 kg and the other weighing 4 kg. Both balls landed (降落) on the ground at the same time. Most people thought the heavier ball would land first.
