The Olympic Games

The Olympic Games, first held in 776BC, has a history of more than one thousand yiars. The Games is held every four years.

Many countries try their best to bid forhosting the Olympic Games. And every country does its best to get more medals in the Games. In 2000, the city of Sidney held the 27th Olympic Games. Over one hundred countries all over the world took part in it. We won 28gold medals that year. China, a major sport country, will hold the 29th Olympic Games in 2008. People from all walks of life are participating in various activities and making good preparations for it.

There are five rings on the Olympic flag, which are considered to symbolize, the five continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and America. The Olympic motto is: \"Swifter, higher, stronger.\" The Games can promote the understanding and friendship among different peoples and different nations.

How to be a polite spectator of the Olympic Games

The 2008 Olympic Games are drawing near, so it is important for us to know how to be a good spectator.

First, before your arrival, you should read the rules for spectators on the back of the ticket. Besides, don’t get to the seat later than half an hour before the game.

During the game, don’t leave your seat and be careful not to say improper words about players’ and coaches’ behaviour. We should learn to control our feelings.

We can applaud when players first appear and after an excellent

performance. However, we can’t applaud during a game. Of course, we can

cheer during a basketball or football match but we must keep silent when enjoying gymnastics. Time permitting, a redesign of city layout and adjustment of architectural style would provide a better environment for fostering the characteristic, blending, oriental elegance with international grandeur, will tower aloft among surrounding architectures. To achieve such effect, Beijing shall solicit opinions from first rate architects and make an overall plan. Thirdly, quality of the population should be improved. To make an international metropolis, both “hardware” and “software” are important. However, Rome was not built in a day. Take a look at the road conditions of today. Quite a few pedestrians and cyclists behave as if there were no traffic rules at all .They cross roads anywhere as they like, even though there are zebra-crossings just a few yards away. Some even put themselves at risk taking short cuts by climbing dividers in the middle of roads. Many drivers act like F1 racers on the highways. They drive at considerable speeds without care. They

usually speed through zebra-crossings, even when pedestrians are there .When there is a red light at an intersection ,pedestrians or cyclists never tend to pause or stop .They all forget where they

are .Sometimes there are some crazy people driving on the roads without driving licenses ,or worse ,drink and drive ,which can make the road into a bloody battle field.

Why do such things happen? In my opinion, it is just due to their lack of moral duty that people ignore various traffic rules ,road safety ,or even the lives of others. This leads to their bad and reckless behavior, which makes the traffic conditions go from bad to worse. It is believed that something should be done to improve the whole situation. Then road safety won’t be a problem and traffic conditions won’t be a bother to us anymore.

It is reported that about 100,000 people will be chosen as volunteers for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing． What should the volunteers do and what should they not do?

Firstly, they should be polite and friendly to the athletes and visitors

from all over the world, and avoid improper behavior．Secondly, they should stick to their posts, offering good services, satisfying/meeting any reasonable needs and being ready to help those in difficulty, and never fail to do their duty．Thirdly, they should introduce the Chinese

places, streets were blocked; houses fell down and supplies were short. Almost 100 million people in trouble.

Our party and government showed great concern to the local people. A lot of money and supplies were sent to snow struck places. Despite the extremely weather and great danger, the PLA men took an active part in the struggle against the snow. They cleared away snow, sent supplies and rescued people in danger. They always appeared where they were most needed.

From June1, 2008, shops and supermarkets are forbidden from offering free plastic bags to customers, according to a new law. A nation-wide campaign against plastic bags has been launched.

Nowadays, Chinese people use up to three billion plastic bags a day. While being very convenient to shoppers, plastic bags also cause serious white pollution” and waste resources.

Though the ban may cause some inconvenience to shoppers, it can help reduce the use of plastic bags when people have to pay for them. Besides, the ban, in away, can promote public awareness of environmental protection.

So I think it necessary to forbid shops and supermarkets from offering free plastic bags. When shopping, we can use cloth bags or baskets instead of plastic bags as we used to.

As we know, when senior students graduate from school, most of their reference books are thrown away, which are still in good condition. What a great waste it is!

I suggest that we should recycle these books. On one hand, recycling them can save a lot of natural resources, which are used to make textbooks. On the other hand, senior students may have made plenty of useful notes on the pages. They are very helpful to the following users.

At present, the whole nation is called on to build an energy-saving society. I think it is certainly meaningful to our long-term interests . In fact, in Australia and some other countries, recycling textbooks is popular, which gives us a good example.
