Last Weekend's Adventures
Hi everyone! I'm super excited to tell you all about my weekend. It was so much fun and full of awesome adventures! I hardly know where to begin.
On Saturday morning, I woke up really early because I was just too excited to sleep in. My best friend Tommy was coming over to spend the night, and we had made huge plans. First up was conquering the world...or at least conquering my backyard fortress!
Tommy arrived around 9am with his camouflage gear and toy binoculars. We got dressed up in our army clothes and face paint to prepare for battle. My dog Rufus was very confused when he saw us, but he's used to our crazy games by now. We spent a couple hours building up the defenses around the playhouse and drawing up attack plans against the evil neighbors on maps made from fallen leaves.
Once we felt fully prepared, we launched an all-out offensive with grass and dirt missiles against the McCormicks next door. They must have been spies or enemy soldiers because they definitely fired back! We took cover behind the bushes and
giggled until our stomachs hurt as clumps of mud went flying everywhere.
The McCormick's mom eventually came out and put a stop to the \"war\" by calling a ceasefire and ordering us inside for lunch. We had PB&J sandwiches and Capri Sun pouches to regain our energy from all the morning's hard work defending our territory.
After lunch, Tommy and I decided to become world-famous explorers on an expedition into the forest behind my house. We packed a backpack full of snacks, bottles of water, a compass, and a bunch of other crucial supplies. Rufus was our brave expedition dog who would protect us from any dangerous beasts we might encounter.
The woods seemed so huge and mysterious as we ventured deeper and deeper in. Every stick on the ground looked like it could be a deadly snake ready to strike. Every rustling sound in the bushes had us prepared to take on a ferocious mountain lion! A few hours into our hike, we came across a small stream that featured a little waterfall and pool. We took a snack break there and I can't tell you how delicious those Oreos tasted after such an intense journey.
On the way back home, Rufus got his leash tangled around a tree and we had to stop to free him. Out of nowhere, the loudest thunderclap I'd ever heard made us all jump about a foot in the air! Tommy and I looked up to see the darkest storm clouds rolling in. The race was on to get home before the downpour. We made it back just as the first raindrops started falling. My mom scolded us a bit for staying out so late without rain jackets. I apologized and promised we would listen better next time. To warm up and celebrate the day's adventures, my mom made us mugs of hot chocolate with giant marshmallows. I gulped it down while Tommy and I recounted every exciting detail of our day.
After dinner, we begged my mom to let us go back outside in the rain. She probably thought we were crazy, but to our surprise, she said yes! Tommy and I threw on our swimsuits and ran outside to splash in the puddles and dance in the downpour until we were shivering. It was one of those beautiful warm summer rains that feels so refreshing after a hot, busy day. My mom eventually made us come inside before we got sick, but it was a perfect way to end such an awesome day.
The rest of the evening, Tommy and I played video games in our pajamas, ate too many bowls of ice cream, and told silly
jokes and stories until we couldn't keep our eyes open any longer. I've never laughed so hard in my whole life!
Sunday morning came way too soon. We had planned to head to the park after breakfast to play baseball and go on the swings, but dark clouds rolled in again and it started pouring rain. To cheer ourselves up, Tommy and I built a jumbo fort in the living room using every blanket, pillow, and couch cushion we could find.
We spent most of the day watching movies and having Nerf gun battles inside the fort. It was so cozy and fun in there that we hardly noticed the storm raging outside. For lunch, my mom brought us a picnic basket full of sandwiches, chips, cookies, and juice boxes to enjoy inside our little hideout.
Eventually Tommy had to go home, but not before making my mom take about a million pictures of us sitting proudly in the middle of our epic fort construction. We made her promise to show the pictures to Tommy's parents so they could see what master builders and survivors we were!
As I waved goodbye to my best friend, I felt so grateful for such an unforgettable weekend. We had done so many activities that fueled our sense of adventure, imagination, and fun. From the backyard battle to exploring the forest to playing in the rain
and building our awesome fort, it was the best weekend a kid could ask for. I'm already counting down the days until our next sleepover!
