Most parents hope that their children can be happy and successful. But do you know the most powerful(有力的)way to encourage them to be so? The answer is to allow them to make their own decisions.

Unfortunately, popular culture has different ideas about children‘s decision making. Most parents make decisions for their children—what they wear, what they eat and what movies they watch. In fact, it‘s not good for children‘s growing.

Children should be allowed to make decisions when they are very young. But this doesn‘t mean they are allowed to do everything. For example, you shouldn‘t take your children into a store and tell them they can have anything they want. They would be overwhelmed（不知所措的）by the choices. But you can give them a choice among snacks. In the tenth grade, I volunteered to work at a vet‘s. I wanted to get experience for my future job. However, I learnt something more important on one Saturday.

The hospital was in a poor place of the city. On one Saturday, a man and his young son walked in with a small cat in a box. There was something wrong with the cat‘s left eye.
