In recent years, it has appeared many grass—roots stars around us ,such as “Xidan girl”, “The Hip Hop Group of Migrant” and “Xu’s and Gang’s Music”. They all are overnight fame, and they were invited to play the CCTV Spring Festival Gala in 2011. So there is a debate which is about Grass—roots stars should be accepted or not. As far as I am concerned, as a big important part of the society, they should be accepted, not only accepted but also trained by professional man,
Let’s see “Xidan Girl”, Ren Yueli. She is a 23—year—old rural girl from Hebei Province, China. At the age of 16, she reluctantly began her first job as a waitress in Beijing after dropping out of school. Hoping to make more money doing something for which she had passion, she quit waitressing and opted to try singing in a subway tunnel near Xidan, a busy commercial district in Beijing proper. At the beginning of 2009, her one performance taken by a passerby was put on the internet, and she quickly gained millions of fans and the nickname, “Xidan Girl”. Because of her guitar skill and beautiful voice, she was invited to perform for Spring Festival Gala. Over half the population of China watched her performance. Since then, she has become famous around the China. Now, she is a professional entertainer. And she was never forgotten that who made
her famous. After the gala, she announced she would auction off her guitar used in the gala and donate the proceeds to charity.
As a rural girl, who came from lower class, in the near future, if she really becomes more famous, I believe she still will contribute to the society widely, since she has always remembered her situation, and she has contributed to the society. All in all she knows clearer about the grass roots, not only those people who like her, but also many other workers and farmers. Then, she was found by those people who serve the internet and who are a big part of Chinese. China is a socialist state, just as her full name “the People’s Republic of China”. She should pursue democracy and respect most people’s suggestion. From the two aspects, we should accept her.
“How can a girl singing in a Xidan subway tunnel be invited on stage at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala?” asked MaMei, who came from the China National Opera House. “Those who study in professional schools for four or five years can not get the same chances, it’s better to let them sing in subway.” There is a Chinese old saying, “The opportunity is left to those people who have preparation.” These grass roots can be chosen out and become stars. It can only demonstrate that they have prepared well. Their performance in the gala and their behaviors after the gala all proved the point. Their performance is affirmed and they practice hardly and
positively. It is thus clear that people’s eyes are discerning.
Compared with some actresses and actors, they are simpler and more honest. They have never tried to withhold the truth of their background. They should be accepted.
We should believe these grass—roots stars. It is good to see that they are remarkably quick learners. “For much of my life, I lingered at a crossroads. Sometimes I felt confused, but ultimately I chose to pursue my dream. I think it is an integral part of life.” Ren wrote in her blog. What is her dream? I think her performance and behaviors have given us answer. The left for us is to support them.
