Scientists from the University of Illinois found that moderate noise can make people more creative, the New

York Times reported.
Scientists did tests on students, who were divided into four groups and were asked to do certain tasks involving creative thinking. But each group did the task with different volumes of background noise. They found that students did best when working under moderate noise—70 decibels(分贝),which is about the same volume of background noise in a café. Students did worse in low noise(50db),which is the volume of a quiet room. They did the poorest when in a high-noise(85db)environment, which is the noise level in a factory. Moderate noise can distract people just enough so that they think more creatively.“It helps you think outside the box,”Raci Metha, a lead researcher in the study, said to the Business Standard.
On the one hand, working in a very quiet place can strengthen our focus, but it also stops us from thinking abstractly.
“This is why if you are too focused on a problem and you can’t solve it,”said Metha,“You leave it for some time and then come back to it and you get the solution.”
However, the scientists said that when you need to do detailed things, like proofreading a paper, a quiet place is better than a noisy one.
55. The passage mainly tells us __.

Why do some people eat lots of fries and sweets and never put on a pound? They may fidget a lot, say researchers at Mayo Clinic.
Michael Jensen and two colleagues at the clinic instructed a group of 16 volunteers to eat lots of delicious, high-fat meals. The volunteers were also instructed to become couch potatoes and do no sports. After eight weeks some of the volunteers gained a lot of weight; the others gained hardly a pound.
The researchers discovered that the differences in weight gain were not due to difference in the volunteers’ metabolism - all the chemical processes that occur in the body. Men and women with high metabolisms burn more calories(卡路里)and store less fat than those with lower metabolisms.
The scientists concluded that the only possible explanation for the differences between the volunteers was fidgeting, by which they meant routine physical activities, such as shifting positions in a chair, crossing or uncrossing legs, sitting up straight to maintain proper posture, and getting up to stretch or take short walks. The technical name for it is non-exercise activity thermogenesis(生热作用)(NEAT).
The volunteers who gained the least amount of weight had higher levels of NEAT than those who gained a lot of weight, said the researchers.“When people overeat, NEAT switches on in some people to“waste”this extra energy,”said Jensen.“Every little bit of activity helps,”he added,“even if it doesn’t seem like much.”
61. The passage mainly deals with the relationship between ___ and body weight. A. food B. sports C. movement D. metabolism 62. The experiment done by the researchers find that ______.
A. any little amount of body activity leads to the burning of calories B. doing exercise helps one to maintain weight even if he eats a lot C. young children tend to be thin because they usually fidget a lot D. high-fat food is the most important cause of weight gaining 63. What can be concluded from the passage? A. Overeating is not necessarily bad. B. Too much energy is harmful to health. C. Fidgeting is a good habit in any case. D. We can rely on fidgeting to maintain weight.
